Expect the unexpected, Big Brother fans! The CBS show has not only reached 1,000 episodes but also achieved two Guinness World Records in the process.
According to a press release, the first record is that BB is the first primetime TV show to reach 1,000 episodes, an accomplishment that was announced before the season began. They also set the record for the most episodes of a competitive reality TV show.
During the live 90-minute show, which featured an eviction and Houseguests from seasons past, Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator Michael Empric presented host Julie Chen Moonves with the certificates for the two titles.
“Throughout our many summers producing Big Brother, we never thought we’d reach 1,000 episodes – let alone achieve not one but TWO Guinness World Records titles!” executive producers Allison Grodner, Rich Meehan, and Chris Roach said in the release. “We were so thrilled to have Michael from Guinness World Records join us for our historic 1,000th episode and officially present these to our legendary host, Julie Chen Moonves! We cannot thank our now two-time Guinness World Records title-holding Big Brother family enough for working tirelessly behind the scenes to get us to this unprecedented milestone.”

The milestone night took a look back at some of the most memorable moments from the show’s historic 26-year run and featured surprise appearances from former Houseguests including Chelsie Baham, Dan Gheesling, Britney Haynes and Kaysar Ridha, which were determined by interactive fan votes.

It also kicked off the biggest twist of the summer – the houseguests traveled back to the year 1000, where four Big Brother legends — Haynes, Tiffany Mitchell, Keanu Soto, and Cody Calafiore — will lord over the night and challenge Houseguests in a way no Big Brother houseguests have been challenged before.
There will be no Head of Household, Power of Veto, or Blockbuster competition, but one Houseguest will not make it to the next live eviction. Live feeds will be down until after the Sunday episode at 9/8c. Find out more about the twist then.
This season also marked the most programming hours for BB since the show’s first season, with 90-minute episodes every Wednesday and bi-weekly episodes of Big Brother: Unlocked.
