Bill Maher blasted Democrats for their hypocrisy over President Donald Trump‘s renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America.
During the Friday, August 28 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the late-night host, 70, addressed the controversial executive order. It marks one of Trump’s latest moves in the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and Canada.
“We’ve been tariffing them, and then they were tariffing us back. You know, it looked like we were heading for some sort of a deal, but then no, no deal. Why? Because they’ve been taking advantage of us!” Maher said in a mocking fashion during his opening monologue. “Yeah. F*** yeah, man! Every time I see a Canadian, I’m like, ‘This is the guy who’s been f***ing with me all these [years].’”
He added, “I just wanted to say to our viewers in Canada, we’re still cool, right? It’s not all of us. We like you.”
Maher also pointed out, “Trump is so mad at Canada, he renamed Lake Ontario ‘Lake America.’ Now I gotta buy a new globe again. This is like the fifth time it’s happened.”
He then took aim at Democrats, adding, “Liberals are very pissed at this. They say you can’t just go around renaming things to suit your political agenda. Just ask any Latinx birthing person.”
Later in the episode, Maher again slammed the left while venting about Israel amid its war against Hamas in Gaza.
“Israel was known as an outpost of Western civilization,” he pointed out during a conversation with Wesleyan University President Michael Roth. “And that’s what it was called. That was always a good thing. Now, I don’t think it is.”
Maher continued, “Western civilization — they talk about it like it’s a bad thing, instead of saying Western civilization is what gave everyone who’s a progressive the things they should be most proud of.”
