After breaking records, the miners are back for Season 17 of Gold Rush. The Discovery Channel series will premiere October 2 with favorites Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets, and Rick Ness returning to take advantage of gold reaching $5,000 an ounce with more than $130 million worth of the treasure waiting to be uncovered.
The crews are set to pick up where they left off based on details revealed first to TV Insider. Rivalries intensify in the Yukon with the stakes higher than ever. Pressure months as the miners battle harsh conditions, costly equipment failures, and risky decisions that could make or break their season. As seen in the promo exclusively shared above, it’s the wild, wild, west at the “Gold Rush Saloon” with the ultimate showdown on the horizon. Also, is it me or does Beets look very Gandalf-like?
Schnabel isn’t one to rest on his laurels or finish in second place to Tony Beets. Even though he reached a career best $42 million, it wasn’t enough to dethrone the “King of the Klondike” and his whopping $45 million haul. Schnabel eyes a potential $65 payout and an aggressive goal for his team.
The road won’t be easy with a dispute over water access threatening to derail his plans. Adding to the mining prodigy’s problems is uncertainty regarding his mining operation beyond this season, which motivates him to take big swings that could shape his next chapter.
Beets kept the gold train running from start to finish last year. He hopes for an even better return, investing $20 million in new equipment to mine more gold than ever before. With Schnabel on his heels, the veteran enlists in more family members to get the job done. He enlists his brother Nick Beets into a key foreman role. Beets isn’t one to take it easy on any member of his crew, especially if they’re family. Nick faces pressure to overcome setbacks from snowmelt flooding a new cut.
Then there is Ness who starts his season with a personal health crisis. The underdog confided in his longtime friend Brian “Zee” Zaremba about his fears for the future. He receives what is described as a “life-altering” diagnosis. A bombshell is teased to be dropped from his crew that could impact their mining operation. Ness is fighting on two fronts, his health and business.
