Driver of possibly stolen Mercedes in custody after chase through South LA – NBC Los Angeles

California

The driver of an allegedly stolen Mercedes was taken into custody after leading authorities on a chase through South Los Angeles on Thursday night.

Deputies started a brief pursuit in the Paramount area a little before 10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Shortly afterward, the chase was handed over the California Highway Patrol.

At one point, aerial footage from NewsChopper4 showed the driver get out of the car and shout something to officers before getting back in and driving off.

Just before 10:30 p.m., the driver went onto the eastbound Interstate 10. At least four CHP vehicles were seen following the Mercedes, which was swerving and only traveling around 15-20 miles per hour on the freeway possibly due to an apparent flat back tire.

About five minutes later, the CHP conducted a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Authorities then took the driver into custody on the eastbound 10 Freeway, just west of the 110 Freeway, near downtown Los Angeles.
