What started as a response to a house fire in Maywood led to the discovery of three people, including a child, all dead of gunshot wounds inside the burning home.
Firefighters were called to a home near the intersection of East 61st Street and Alamo Avenue sometime around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. There, they were given notice that there may be people in the burning home, so crews began to search.
Upon searching through the house, firefighters found three people – a man, a woman and a young boy – all dead of gunshot wounds inside a bedroom. The adults were described as being in their late 40s and the child was described as a boy around the age of 6 or 7 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The deceased were a family, with the adults being married and the boy being their son, LASD said. The department said the case “appears to be domestic violence in nature.”
Law enforcement did not release the names of the gunshot victims. Investigators located a gun at the scene.
Details on what led up to the shooting remain under investigation. There is no threat to the public, LASD assured.
