Two parents were arrested after their children were accused of recklessly riding pocket bikes in Huntington Beach over the weekend, police said.
Multiple calls about reckless driving were made regarding a large group of pocket bike riders on Saturday, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Police say many riders took off before they arrived but that two children were detained at the scene. Their mother was also detained and arrested on suspicion of child endangerment because she “knowingly allowed her kids to drive recklessly, knowing they could be seriously hurt or die,” according to authorities.
While the investigation was underway, another child on a pocket bike arrived, and officers say they arrested the rider’s father on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two other young riders were cited and released, the department said.
Authorities said a man who fell from his pocket bike was also taken into custody for reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Police impounded multiple pocket bikes during the investigation, the department said.
“We’re not going to shrug off reckless driving/riding as ‘just kids having fun,'” the police department said in a social media post. “When driving/riding becomes dangerous, people can get seriously hurt or worse.”
