If rowing romance Crew Girl has rowed its way into your heart already, there’s a good chance you’re in need of a new teen drama or sports romance fix. Whether you’re drawn to Teagan’s (Miku Martineau) complicated love triangle with her crewmates, Josh (Samuel Braun) and Cam (Kyle Clark), or the competition element that drives Season 1 forward, Swooon has a recommendation that’ll hit the spot while you wait for news of a Season 2 renewal.
Crew Girl Season 1 features many tried-and-true teen drama tropes, which were made famous by shows like Gossip Girl and Dawson’s Creek. You can dive into those, or some of the stars’ previous shows. Martineau, for one, led another Netflix series prior to Crew Girl. What’s more, the Crew Girl executive producer is behind yet another YA TV love triangle set in the world of ice dancing. Gossip Girl
Showrunner Vivian Lin told Teen Vogue, “After our first table read, Thomas, who plays Hayden, came up to me, and he was like, ‘So… Gossip Girl and Friday Night Lights on a boat?’ I was like, ‘Yep, you got it.’”
Of course, we had to include The CW’s iconic six-season series that paved the way for most teen dramas we have today. It’s got that elite prep school setting that Crew Girl has, albeit in New York City rather than a small town. The characters, including Serena (Blake Lively) and Blair (Leighton Meester), are even messier than the Easton Prep crew. Oh, and Josh is totally giving less problematic Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) energy.

Friday Night Lights
You knew this one was coming next. Friday Night Lights is a clear inspiration for Crew Girl. Both take place in small towns where a sport is everything. It even has dual-generation love stories: Before Ella (Jessica Paré) and Coach Hayden (Thomas Cadrot), there was FNL‘s Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and Tami (Connie Britton). There’s also plenty of young love between the high school football team’s players and their classmates, from Tim (Taylor Kitsch) and Lyla (Minka Kelly) to Landry (Jesse Plemons) and Tyra (Adrianne Palicki).

Finding Her Edge
Released a few months before Crew Girl, Netflix’s Finding Her Edge, which is coming back for a second season, shares a number of qualities with the rowing drama. For one, both are helmed by executive producer Jeff Norton. Finding Her Edge also features a love triangle where the two guys are rivals in their sport: ice dancing. What’s more, Lin told Swooon that Finding Her Edge star Ollie Atkins has family members who worked on Crew Girl!

The Kicks
The Kicks skews a little younger than Crew Girl, but the shows still have plenty in common. Young soccer player Devin (Sixx Orange) is like Teagan in that she moves to a new place and finds that she has to get her new team into shape. It’s based on a book by U.S. Women’s National Team soccer player Alex Morgan.

The Way Home
If you fell in love with Braun as Josh, get ready to swoon over him as Nick in The Way Home. There isn’t much the series has in common with Crew Girl aside from the actor, but it also has teen drama elements mixed into it. It follows three generations of women, including high schooler Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow), who discover a magical pond on their family farm. It allows them to travel into the past, which is where Alice meets Nick.

All American
This list wouldn’t be complete without All American, the long-running, sports-centric series on The CW. Though its characters have aged out of high school in the current (and final) Season 8, All American begins by following star football player Spencer James (Daniel Ezra). He leaves his high school in Compton to play for a team in Beverly Hills, so it has a similar starting-over-at-a-new-school premise.

Off Campus
Off Campus is decidedly more mature than Crew Girl with its spicy scenes and college-aged students, but you’ll definitely like parts of the Prime Video series if you enjoyed Crew Girl. For one, it’s also a sports romance, taking place in the world of college hockey. Briar U’s star center, Garrett (Belmont Cameli), starts a fake-dating scheme with music major Hannah (Ella Bright). There’s also a brief love triangle and a dose of the secret relationship trope with a secondary couple, if you enjoyed that portion of Teagan and Josh’s Season 1 arc.

One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill is a classic teen drama with sports at the center of it, too. Set in a small town, the nine-season series revolves around half-brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan (James Lafferty) who go to the same high school but live drastically different lives. When they both join the basketball team, drama ensues. So do plenty of romantic entanglements.

Bet
Before she was Crew Girl‘s leading lady, Martineau helmed Netflix’s Bet, which is returning for a second season. The show also takes place in an elite high school, where a Japanese transfer student (Martineau) shakes up the power structure via gambling. So, it’s not exactly a sports-focused teen drama, but it does feature some high-stakes competition.

Dawson’s Creek
Dawson’s Creek might just be the teen love triangle blueprint. Like Crew Girl, the six-season drama is set in a small Northeastern coastal town, where Dawson (James Van Der Beek), Pacey (Joshua Jackson), and Joey (Katie Holmes) navigate platonic and romantic relationships. It doesn’t have the sports, but it does have the mess, which we mean in a complimentary way.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
We can’t not compare Crew Girl’s love triangle to the show that produced one of the most famous love triangles in recent years: Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty. Based on a book series by Jenny Han, the show follows Belly (Lola Tung) as she comes of age and falls for brothers Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). It even largely takes place on the coast of the Northeast.
