A man suspected of impersonating a Homeland Security officer during a traffic stop in West Hollywood remains in custody without bail after his arrest Friday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told NBC4 Investigates.
Deputies assigned to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station stopped the man’s vehicle around 9:45 p.m. on Sunset Boulevard because it did not have a rear license plate, authorities said.
During the traffic stop, the driver told deputies that he was with Homeland Security and that the vehicle was his personal vehicle, according to LASD.
Authorities said the vehicle was equipped with forward-facing red and white lights. After identifying the driver, deputies discovered he was on active parole.
The man was arrested and booked on suspicion of impersonating a peace officer and possessing drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody without bail, authorities said.
Authorities did not provide additional details about the man’s alleged impersonation or whether the vehicle’s emergency-style lights had been used before the traffic stop.
