What To Know
- Carson Daly has stepped in as an interim co-anchor on Weekend Today with Laura Jarrett in recent weeks.
- Today fans shared their desire to see Daly take on the anchor role full-time.
- Earlier this year, it was announced that Daly will not return to host The Voice‘s upcoming celebrity-focused season.
Some Today fans want Carson Daly to take on a bigger role on the NBC morning show.
In recent weeks, Daly has stopped by the show’s Saturday edition to help Laura Jarrett co-anchor Weekend Today. Jarrett has been without a permanent co-anchor since Peter Alexander stepped away from NBC News in March after 22 years. Alexander has since moved to MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) to work as a breaking news anchor and chief national reporter, as well as host the network’s 11 a.m. ET hour.
Daly, for his part, has also experienced some recent career changes. In August, it was announced that Daly will not return to host The Voice Season 31. Keke Palmer will take over the role for the show’s celebrity-focused new season.
In an August 4 Instagram post, Daly clarified that he’s not leaving the long-running competition series for good. “Many today have asked if I’m leaving the show. Nope. We’re gonna try out these 2 formats this fall/spring & see how it goes!” he explained. “Hopefully this post clears up any confusion. I am still hosting the show currently. In fact, I have hosted & produced every single second of the show since day 1, 30 seasons. 16 years. I’ll be producing Celeb Voice only & helping it launch from behind the scenes.”

Given Daly’s recent appearances on Weekend Today, and his upcoming hosting break from The Voice, several fans have suggested that he become Alexander’s official anchor replacement. “I’m enjoying Carson on Saturdays. He’s seems to also be the most consistent during the week. I’ve become a fan,” one user wrote in a recent Reddit thread. Another agreed, adding, “Yes, I’ve been seeing him. It’s a good place for him to sharpen his anchor skills.”
Someone else shared, “He’s really good in the anchor chair but how long can he maintain this pace? I worry about his wellbeing.” In response, a different person posted, “I think he’s lining himself up for an opening in the future.” A separate commenter offered a different opinion, stating, “He’s just so bland.”
Daly first joined the NBC family in 2002 as host of Last Call with Carson Daly, which ran until 2019. He has hosted The Voice since its 2011 premiere and joined Today in 2013.
Before joining NBC, Daly was best known as the original host of MTV‘s Total Request Live. He departed the entertainment talk show in 2003 to focus on Last Call with Carson Daly.

Earlier this month, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Daly recently filmed a TRL reunion special at the show’s original Times Square studio for Roku. The special will reportedly air sometime in 2027.
