2 Riverside County teens accused of planning school shooting – NBC Los Angeles

California

Two 15-year-old girls were arrested on suspicion of planning a school shooting in Corona, police announced on Tuesday.

The Corona Police Department was notified by the FBI on Oct. 6 of social media communications about a possible threat to Corona High School, police said. The initial investigation resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old girl from the school.

As the investigation continued, a 15-year-old girl from Norco High School was also arrested.

Detectives said the two girls spent several months researching school shootings and brainstorming how they could attack Corona High School. They also discussed ways they could get weapons but ultimately were unable to do so, law enforcement said.

No weapons were recovered during investigators’ searches.

Both of the teens, whose names have been withheld, were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office is now reviewing the case.

A possible motive for the planning was not disclosed.
