Connie Britton is back on television in Hulu’s new show Phony, in which she plays a mother whose son is convinced she’s been replaced by an impostor after he wakes up from a severe car accident. In real life, things are a lot less creepy for Britton, who has been in a relationship with David Windsor since 2019.

“That’s another dream come true,” she recently told People, of her relationship, which began when she was in her early 50s. “I mean, it just is, and it took a long time coming.”

While Britton and Windsor are mostly private about their relationship, she has shared some information about their love. Scroll down for more about him and his romance with the beloved actress.

What does David Windsor do for a living?

Windsor is a TV writer and producer. Some of his credits include The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, This Is Us, Trophy Wife, Greek, Not Dead Yet, and more.

He also runs a production company, Windsor Johnson Productions, with his longtime collaborating partner Casey Johnson.

How did Connie Britton and David Windsor meet?

The couple first crossed paths at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2019. Britton didn’t know anyone at the party, but her friend told her, “There’s someone here you have to meet.” When the friend pointed Windsor out, Britton was immediately interested.

“I’ll never forget that moment because I turned around, and I looked at who he was pointing at and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I want to meet him,’” she told Andy Cohen in 2023. While they didn’t actually meet that evening, Britton asked her friend to give Windsor her email address, and he sent her a message the very next day.

The two dated for six years before getting engaged in October 2025.

Does Connie Britton have children?

Yes, Britton is mother to a son, Yoby, whom she adopted from Ethiopia as a single mother in 2011.

“I went into [that] a little bit blindly, not really fully anticipating what it is to be a single mom and how difficult that is, and what you’re taking on in doing that,” she previously told Parade. “I had a stay-at-home nanny. So I realized, ‘Oh my gosh, at least I have help.’”

Of her decision to adopt a child on her own, she explained, “I knew that I hadn’t achieved the kind of partnership that I was looking for to have a spouse and a child together. And so I thought, ‘This is the time, I’m going to start the adoption process.’”

The Friday Night Lights star said in her interview with Cohen that Windsor was “definitely stepping into that more paternal role” with Yoby. He also has children from a previous relationship.

Plus, Britton credited her Nashville costar Hayden Panettiere with helping out on set when Yoby was a baby. “I really was looking for my village when I moved there with my tiny baby, and I needed help,” she told People. “Whenever she was there, it just felt like sweetness.”

Who was Connie Britton married to?

Britton was previously married to John Britton, an investment banker, from 1991 to 1995. They met in college at Dartmouth University and moved to New York together in 1989 after graduation.

“I was married at 24. When I look back, it seems young,” Britton admitted to Redbook in 2009. “I grew and changed a lot.” She admitted that going through the divorce was “hard,” adding, “I was about 29 when my husband and I split up. I think we probably fared better than most because we were young and didn’t have kids, but divorce is hard.”

In her interview with Cohen, she confirmed that Windsor has also been married before, but did not share further details about his past relationship.
