Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in South Los Angeles late Saturday afternoon.
The collision happened close to the Arco Gas Station near West Manchester Avenue and South Broadway in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood just before 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver of a grey sedan was making a turn from the gas station when he collided with the pedestrian who had fallen into the roadway, the LAPD said.
Officials say the driver continued but returned to the scene after bystanders flagged him down. He remained there while the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and for about 20 minutes after the pedestrian was transported, according to police.
The pedestrian, identified as Bruce Frederick Buchanan Jr., died at the hospital, the LAPD said.
Police said the driver left before officers arrived and did not provide his information. Authorities did not provide more details about the driver or his vehicle.
