What to Expect From John Goodman’s ‘Grifter Father’ of Aggie in ‘Beast in Me’ Season 2

What To Know

  • John Goodman will play Jack, the con artist father of Claire Danes’ Aggie, in Season 2 of Netflix’s The Beast in Me.
  • Executive producer Howard Gordon previously revealed he’s the character he thought would be “fun to explore” going forward.

After The Beast in Me Season 1, and before it was revealed the Netflix drama would be returning for more, executive producer Howard Gordon told TV Insider the character he wanted to explore, should the series continue. That character has now been cast for Season 2: John Goodman will be playing Jack, Aggie’s (Claire Danes) con artist father.

Season 1 revealed that when Aggie was 12, her father was arrested. She had been asked about him, and why they stopped speaking during an interview she was doing over the phone before the tragic car accident that led to her son’s death. Aggie said that her father sued her, claiming she was profiting from his story.

Gordon told us that he thought it would be “fun to explore” Aggie’s “grifter father, with whom she had a very complicated relationship and is clearly estranged. I was curious about who this guy might be.”

Well, now we’re going to get the chance for just that, with her father clearly having his own side of the story.

Netflix renewed The Beast in Me for Season 2 on September 24, just under a year after its first season dropped. Details are being kept under wraps about the second season, but we do know that Claire Danes is returning as author Aggie.

“As long as Aggie is still roaming the planet and is a writer, I think there probably is a story there,” Gordon told us. What mattered, he explained, was coming up “with a story that really made it worth doing.”

Gordon and Daniel Pearle are co-showrunners for The Beast in Me Season 2. Joining them as executive producers are Danes, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, creator Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster. The series is produced by 20th Television.
