A death investigation was underway in Hawthorne after a mother and her teenage son were taken to the hospital in critical condition on Thursday, authorities said.
The incident happened at an apartment on 139th Street near Prairie Avenue just before 3:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The LASD’s Homicide detectives responded to assist the Hawthorne Police Department.
The two were found unconscious with traumatic wounds inside the apartment and were taken to the hospital, LASD Lt. Michael Modica said. There, an Emergency Room doctor pronounced the woman in her late 50s “death imminent,” while the boy remained in critical condition, officials said.
Officials did not release more details about the incident or a possible suspect.
