What to Know
- Day 9 of the 2026 Milan Cortina Games has nine medal events across eight different sports, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, skeleton and speed skating.
- Team USA star Mikaela Shiffrin missed the podium in the women’s giant slalom, an event she won gold in at the 2018 Games. She will have one last chance at a medal in Milan Cortina on Wednesday.
- Bobsled got underway with the first women’s monobob runs. Reigning silver medalist Elana Meyers Taylor, defending Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries and 2025 world champion Kaysha Love are all in the top five after two runs.
- Team USA flag bearer Erin Jackson goes for the repeat in the women’s speed skating 500m race at 11 a.m. ET. She made history in this event at the 2022 Games as the first Black woman to win an individual Winter Olympic gold.
- The figure skating competition continues with the pairs short program at 1:30 p.m. ET. The U.S. has never won gold in this event, with its last podium finish coming at the 1988 Games.
- The USA men’s hockey team looks to win its group as it takes on Leon Draisaitl-led Germany at 3:10 p.m. ET to close out the preliminary round. Group winners receive byes to the quarterfinals.
