LA Community Hospital receives special gift from Peanuts gang – NBC Los Angeles

California

Los Angeles Community Hospital in East Los Angeles has received a permanent mural from Peanuts Worldwide, the company behind Charles M. Schulz’s iconic Peanuts comic strip and global franchise.

The six-panel mural, which depicts Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown in “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” measures 56 inches by 49 inches.

More than 100 doctors, nurses, patients and children from Eastman Elementary School gathered Wednesday to help color the mural before it was installed at the hospital.

The gift was made possible through a collaboration between Peanuts Worldwide and the Foundation for Hospital Art.

“Los Angeles Community Hospital, as you know, serves an underserved community, and the mural is good for the area because we provide a service that isn’t readily available nearby,” Dr. Philip Fagan Jr. said. “Both children and staff benefit from the calming concentration that comes with painting and take well-deserved pride in completing the artwork.”

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

“If the world listened to Charlie Brown, we’d be in a much better place,” Dr. Fagan said.
