Kristin Davis Pitches ‘Final Chapter’ of HBO Franchise

Television

And just like that… a “final chapter” of Sex and the City is taking shape in Kristin Davis’ mind.

On the most recent episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, Davis and Sex and the City costar Evan Handler talked about what could happen to their characters, Charlotte York and Harry Goldenblatt if the HBO comedy returned for one more iteration.

And Davis thinks the franchise still has one last chapter in store. “Look, we don’t know what’s gonna happen, right? Like I have trouble believing that we’re not gonna do one more thing because that’s just always how I feel, you know? It’s just always how I feel. But also because it’s fun to think about what we might do, right?”

Davis and Handler discussed the narrative possibilities of Charlotte and Harry hitting financial difficulties.

But Davis also pointed out that the glamorous New York City lifestyles depicted in Sex and the City have an “aspirational element,” much like the one on display in the new TV show The Five Star Weekend.

“They’re filming on Nantucket, and it’s incredibly beautiful, and her house is incredibly beautiful,” the actor said of the Peacock series starring Jennifer Garner. “And I was thinking, would this work if it didn’t have that element?”

Assuming aspiration is still top of mind for writers of whatever future Sex and the City continuation may come, Davis has an idea of “what would be nice for a final chapter,” even if she’s “gray” at the time.

With that, she cited the 2023 rom-com Book Club: The Next Chapter, in which the four friends played by Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen travel to Italy together.

“Wouldn’t it be fun to do that?” she said. “We could go on like a trip to Italy. Wouldn’t that be great?”

Sex and the City, also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon aired six seasons on HBO between 1998 and 2004. Two films followed — 2008’s Sex and the City and 2010’s Sex and the City 2 — and Davis, Parker, and Nixon returned for the sequel TV series, HBO Max’s And Just Like That…, which ran for three seasons between 2021 and 2025.
