An attempted homicide suspect has barricaded himself in a Santa Ana motel room, prompting a SWAT team to shut down surrounding streets as they try to lure the man out.

The barricade began at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday at the Studio 6 Suites motel on Harbor Boulevard. Police officers contacted a man who was involved in an attempted homicide case from Jan. 2, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

After officers contacted the man, he barricaded himself in one of the motel rooms along with a woman, who is described by police as a willing participant.

Video from the scene showed officers and SWAT team members surrounding the place of lodging.
