What To Know

  • While streaming series dominated the 2026 Emmy nominations, several broadcast shows like FBI, The Rookie, and Will Trent received recognition.
  • Sci-fi, fantasy, and horror series including Alien: Earth, The Boys, and others also garnered multiple nominations.

The 2026 Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, July 8, and some of the honorees were to be expected. The Pitt leads the pack with 25 nominations, followed by Hacks with 24, Widow’s Bay with 19, Pluribus with 18, and Beef with 16. The streaming success is to be expected, as it has been for years. But there was a time that broadcast shows beyond Abbott Elementary got recognized in the major categories at the Emmys. That doesn’t mean, however, that other broadcast shows didn’t receive any nominations this year.

In fact, of scripted shows, there are eight on broadcast that you might have missed got nominations. FBI and The Rookie were both nominated for Outstanding Aunt Coordination for Drama Programming, and FBI also picked up and for Outstanding Stunt Performance. Stumble and Will Trent both were nominated for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming.

Comedies The Neighborhood and Shifting Gears are up for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Multi-Camera Comedy Series. And animated series Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons both got nods for Outstanding Animated Program, with the latter also getting an Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance nomination for Hank Azaria as Gary Chalmers.

There are also some nominations for sci-fi, fantasy, and horror shows, including Alien: EarthThe BoysGen V, IT: Welcome to Derry, Peacemaker, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. (Nominations for HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms were to be expected, given the ones for the other Game of Thrones series in the past.) The biggest (and very pleasant) surprise in that genre, however, has to be Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series for Wonder Man.

Alien: Earth‘s four nominations are for Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour), Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie.

The Boys is up for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Drama Programming, while its spinoff Gen V is in the category for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.

IT: Welcome to Derry is competing for Outstanding Title Design and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie. Meanwhile, Peacemaker was nominated for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.
