Carrie Underwood Makes Surprise Appearance At Her Nashville-Area Church For Performance Of “What A Beautiful Name”

Music

What a Sunday morning surprise.

Carrie Underwood joined the worship team this morning at her church, Rolling Hills Community Church, where she performed Hillsong Worship’s “What A Beautiful Name.” Of course, it’s not the first time she’s done something like this, as she performed at the Easter service earlier this year.

She’s also led the congregation in several hymns like her signature “How Great Thou Art,” during their Christmas concert, so I’m sure members aren’t too shocked to see her show up now (I’m not sure how involved she is in the church week-to-week considering her crazy schedule), but still, what a cool moment.

Carrie has long been outspoken about her faith, and she even released a gospel album called My Savior in 2021, which won the Grammy for Best Roots Gospel Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, marking her eighth Grammy win and a very well-deserved trophy.

It’s still one of the best projects she’s ever done, and I wouldn’t mind getting her studio rendition of this one too… I’ve hoped since My Savior came out that she might do another volume of it because she was made to sing this kind of music:

It was just announced this past week that Carrie is set to return to sing the Sunday Night Football anthem for the 14th straight year. Unlike last year, which was filmed at The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, this season’s open will feature scenes in the recording studio, an intimate, smaller music venue and a concert at a packed stadium, according to People.

Carrie says that this year’s rendition captures the “heart of rock ‘n’ roll,” and says it’s one of her favorite versions yet:

“This year’s show open welcomes Sunday Night Football into my ongoing rock star fever dream. I love this new version of the track and, once again, Tripp and the incredible team behind the camera brought it to life in a whole new way that captures the spirit of this iconic song and the heart of rock ‘n’ roll.

It’s one of my most favorite opens yet!”

It’s well-documented how much Carrie loves rock, so I’m not surprised to hear that and I’m excited to see the full video.

During the recent Pro Football Hall of Fame game, they debuted a teaser of this year’s addition, which will air on September 13th on NBC during the season’s first game when the Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants.
